Romans 6

What a tragedy it would be to have been issued a pardon, while you were in prison, but no one told you about it, and you continued in confinement when you could have been living in freedom. I’m afraid that’s the case of so many believers today! In Christ we have been given a new life of freedom, but so many of us are still living in the prison house of sin and addictions.

One of the best illustrations of this is found in Exodus 1. The people of God, Israel, had grown to become a strong and mighty nation in Egypt over a period of four-hundred years. Pharaoh saw and acknowledged this: Exodus 1:9-11 “And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land." Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens….”

Satan knows that in Christ, we are enabled by God’s power to overcome and live a life of freedom over sin and addictions, so he deals deceitfully with us. He lies and deceives us, to make us believe, that we are slaves to our sins and he sets them as “taskmasters” over us.

That’s why this sixth chapter of Romans is so important! It is our “Emancipation Proclamation!” I have been declared as free from the power and bondage of sin and Satan! I need to know and acknowledge this. I need to reckon by faith that this is for me personally! And now, with my will, I should obediently present and yield the members of my body as holy instruments, to serve my new, loving and kind Master, Jesus Christ!

God bless!
