Don’t Be Deceived Colossians 2:4-5 I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.
Paul was concerned that the believers at Colossae would be “deluded” by the false philosophies that were being taught concerning Jesus. The word “deluded” means to be deceived, fooled, duped, tricked, conned, cheated or misled.
Today, our public schools, our colleges and universities and yes, even many of our churches are filled with teachers and preachers who appear to be so intellectual, and are so convincing with their so called theories and philosophies that they present as truth.
The devil is the deceiver and the liar (John 8:44), and he has a multitude of helpers. His top desire and goal is to dethrone Jesus in your life. He wants you to think that you are wiser than God and you can live your life without Him or His Son Jesus Christ. The devil wants you to think that you should be the one to decide what is right and wrong for your life. This is called humanism. You become your own god and have to right to live for yourself, doing those things that pleasure you the most.
And basically that’s what these false philosophies do. They take Jesus and just make Him another man who did some good things and taught some beautiful lessons about life. They dethrone Jesus! And even today, it appears the devil and his teachers are doing a pretty good job convincing the multitudes to follow their “plausible arguments”.
But Jesus Himself warned; “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” (Matthew 7:13-15)
Jesus, His Word and His Cross is the “narrow gate.” That’s why Paul in the first twelve verses of this chapter mentions Jesus in some way or another at least thirteen times. The answer to the false teaching and philosophies of the world is Jesus Himself!
Today, don’t be deceived! Believe Jesus, trust Jesus, obey Jesus and put Him on the throne of your heart and life!
God bless!
