365 Ways to Know God by Elmer Towns

JESUS: A GOOD MAN

And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some

said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

JOHN 7:12, KJV

As the Feast of Tabernacles approached, Jesus was the main topic of discussion. The people wondered whether Jesus would come to the feast, because there were rumors that the Jewish leaders would arrest Him. Jesus had broken their Sabbath laws, and He claimed to be God. Some said Jesus was a Good Man; others didn't think so. Some said Jesus was a prophet (see John 7:40); others knew He did miracles. Some thought Jesus was in fact their Messiah (see v. 41). During the life of Jesus, as in the world today, "there was a division among the people because of Him" (v. 43). Many theological liberals say that the Bible is not authoritative; if that were true, Jesus would be only a mere man. Some historians say that Jesus was only a good man; if that were true, they couldn't be saved by Him. The problem is that Jesus is the Lord God who demands our loyalty and total love.

Lord Jesus, I recognize that You are the Son of God, the second

Person of the Trinity. I bow to worship You as my Savior.

To say that Jesus is a Good Man is a first step, but it's not enough to save you. It doesn't take much to acknowledge that Jesus is good, but it demands your total response to acknowledge that Jesus is Lord. What must you do? "For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart chat God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9, NLT).

Jesus, I confess that You are much more than a Good Man; You are the

Lord of the universe; You are my Lord. Amen.

Reading: John 7:1-13

Key Thought: It's not enough to recognize Jesus as a Good Man; He must be your Lord.
