JESUS: HE WHO HAS THE SHARP SWORD WITH TWO EDGES

These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword.

REVELATION 2:12

Jesus is He Who Has the Sharp Sword with Two Edges. The Sword is the Word of God, which cuts two ways, it ministers to both believers and unbelievers. Jesus will use the Sword to help believers stand fast, even where Satan's seat is. (see Revelation 2: 13). He will use the Sword to defend those who never deny their faith (even to martyrdom). Jesus says He will help us "hold fast to [His] name" (v. 13). The two-edged Sword also cuts to the heart of a matter to reward truth and faithfulness (see Hebrews 4:12). The Word of God is truth (see John 17:17), so it helps Jesus see accurately what His followers have done. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says" (Revelation 2:17). Those who are overcomers will eat daily the hidden manna of the Word, and Jesus will have a new name for them when they reach Heaven (see v. 17).

Lord, what will happen to those Christians who compromise with the

world and hold false doctrines? How will you judge them?

The sharp two-edged Sword of Jesus cuts the unsaved in judgment. It punishes the rebellious and the disobedient. Jesus says to those who compromise, "Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth" (Revelation 2:16).

Lord, forgive me for looking at the Enemy and for looking at the sins of

other Christians. Lord, I will look to You for truth in judgment. Amen.

Reading: Revelation 2:12-17

Key Thought: The Lord uses the Bible to help Christians and to punish nonbelievers.
