Good Friday – Christ’s Suffering

1 Peter 2:21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

It appears that Peter is telling us that we have been called to suffering and then gives Jesus as an example. I love to talk about being called to salvation to find forgiveness of sins and to have the burden and guilt of all my sins lifted up from me. I enjoy teaching about being called to sanctification, becoming more like Jesus as we follow and live for Him every day! And one day we will receive the call from heaven to enjoy the glory of God for all eternity.

But there is presently also a call to suffering which is difficult to talk about. None of us want to suffer. But God has a purpose even in our suffering! And on this Good Friday it would be good if we would take a little time to meditate and think about the sufferings of our precious Lord Jesus Christ who suffered for us!

If you get a chance today, I would encourage you to read both Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53. Psalm 22 is a prophesy that was written by David, the sweet Psalmist of Israel, about one thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ. He clearly saw the Savior on the cross and describes Christ’s physical, emotional and spiritual suffering in great detail.

Isaiah 53 was written about six hundred years before the birth of Christ and Isaiah the Prophet was also able to foresee the suffering of Christ in detail. Today as you read these two chapters you will see the eternal intent and extent of Christ suffering for you and me!

Today would also be a great day to examine your faith! Have you ever placed your faith and trust totally on the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross of Calvary? If not, why not right now, take the time to bow you head and heart before God and ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior!

My friend, Jesus changes everything!!!!! Nothing in the universe has ever been the same since Jesus showed up two thousand years ago and took our punishment for us, as He died on the cross and resurrected the third day! And He will change your life today, if you let Him!

God bless!
