“Come and See…”

Matthew 28:1-10

“Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Happy Resurrection Day!!!!! I love Psalm 118:24, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” I believe this is a prophesy and the Psalmist is referring to the day of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus was “the Stone that the builders rejected” by nailing Him to a cross. But “He has become the Chief Cornerstone and this was the LORD'S doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.” (Psalm 118:22-24).

The cross of Christ would have no meaning if Jesus did not resurrect from the dead the third day! Paul proclaimed this truth in the great resurrection chapter of 1 Corinthians 1513-19, “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.”

The fact and proofs of Christ resurrection are undeniable! His resurrection is what sets Christianity apart from all the other religions of the world! The great message of the resurrection is “Come and See” for yourself. When the two Marys’ came to the tomb and found the stone rolled away they were invited by the angel to “come and see the place where He lay.”

In Psalm 66:5 we read this invitation: “Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.” But before we can come and see the empty tomb we need to go back to Calvary and see and hear some things there. In Psalm 66:16 we are told to: “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.”

We first need to see Jesus dying on a rugged cross and listen to His dying words…. Come and Hear!!!!! In His seven sayings on the cross we hear: The Word of Forgiveness: "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34). The Word Of Salvation: "And He said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto Him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:42-43). The Word of Affection: “Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He saith unto His mother, Woman, behold thy Son! Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy mother! (John 19:25-26). The Word of Anguish: "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46).

The Word of Suffering: "Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst" (John 19:28). The Word of Victory: "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished" (John 19:30). And The Word of Contentment: "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, Father, into thy hands I commend My spirit: and having said thus, He gave up His spirit" (Luke 23:46).

It was Friday…. But Now Three Days Later… at the tomb!!!!! The angel gives us this invitation, “Come and See”! Will you come? Get up from you are? Will you leave your past, leave your sin, and your guilt at the foot of Cross?

The Last Words in the Bible is an Invitation! Revelation 22:17: “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”

Are you thirsty for truth?

Are you thirsty for forgiveness?

Are you thirsty for love?

Are you thirsty for acceptance?

Are you thirsty for satisfaction?

Are you thirsty for fulfilment?

Are you thirsty for righteousness?

Are you thirsty for more?

Are you thirsty for God?

Are you thirsty for Jesus?

Then the Spirit says, “COME, Drink of this living water!!!!!! One last thought…Notice, it is without “without price”. You can’t buy or purchase it. You can’t deserve it. You can’t work enough for it. It’s the free gift of God!!!! Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Please come and see!

God bless!
