Romans 8:31-34 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
This promise is almost beyond our imagination! That with Christ, God will also “freely give us all things”! Sometimes we must think that it is enough for God to save us and we shouldn’t expect anything more. I want us to notice several great provisions that God has given us in Christ Jesus today!
First, God “did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all.” The Jews and the Romans soldiers might have been the means and hands that put Jesus “up” on the cross but they didn’t kill Him. Jesus Himself said, “No man takes my life from me, I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:15-18)
Also Jesus died for “us all”. Don’t believe for a moment that Jesus only died for a “select” few. “Jesus tasted death for every man”. (Hebrews 2:9) No matter who you are, what you might have done, Jesus took your death and punishment for you! What great hope and joy this alone should give us today!
But that’s not all! God proved His love and care for us in giving us His Son, so now we can also be assured that through Him, He will also “freely”, not grudgingly, not in a selfish, stingy, limited way, but generously and willing give us, everything we need to face every failure, every issue, problem, difficulty and challenge we might encounter in this life!
“Who can condemn us…” Paul knows our conscience and the devil himself will try to make us condemn ourselves for our failures and sins as a Christian. So he reminds us that only one Person has the right to condemn us and that is Jesus. But instead of condemning us, He died for us and rose again. He is alive and is seated at His Father’s right hand, ever living to plead for mercy and grace on our behalf!
Please today, accept and receive this wonderful provision and promise and enjoy the freedom from the guilt and power of sin that you have in Christ!
God bless!
