Is There Life After Death? 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 “For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”

Happy New Year!!!

A good question to ask, as we start off the New Year would be, “Is there life after death?” Because what we believe the answer to this question is, can and should determine what the priorities for our lives this New Year will be! Most of the major religions of the world have a view concerning what happens to a person after they die. Most of them teach that death does not end your existence as a person.

I’m convinced that most reliable source of information on this subject is the Bible and it actually has much to say about it. The simple answer to this big question is, “Yes, there is life after death!” Jesus Himself said something about this in John 11:25-26: “Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" Solomon in Ecclesiastes 3:11 said, “God has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts…”

There is something inside every human being that tells them there is more than just living a few years on earth and dying and that’s it! One of the clearest passages of Scripture in the Bible on the details of what happens at the moment of a believer’s death is found in 2 Corinthians 5. Here the Apostle Paul likens our mortal, physical bodies to a house or a tent. Both of these, as we well know, are a place where we live temporarily for a period of time and then we move on. When the house we live in get destroyed by a flood or a fire we move to a new one.

In this passage we are assured and told that we can be confident that when our physical body, our tent, which is only a temporary dwelling place for our soul and spirit, (the real us), is destroyed by physical death, that God has already prepared for us another habitation that was not made with hands. Paul tells us how long it will last. It is eternal and will endure forever! He also tells us where this dwelling place is. It is in heaven!

Paul then tells us that he personally can’t wait to get this new body, and he is looking forward to the day that will happen. If you go back and read 1 Corinthians 15:42-58, you will find that Paul gives more details about when and what happens to our old mortal, corruptible bodies. Here in 2 Corinthians 5, Paul also talks about the clothing for the new body we will get. And it sounds like it is possible to get this body, but not have proper clothing for it and that we could be ashamed!

Some people have the mistaken idea that when a believe dies and goes to heaven, that it is all happiness and bliss, with no more tears, no more pain and no more sorrow! But according to many passages of Scripture, that simply is not the case! And as we continue studying the Book of Revelation and the Judgment Seat of Christ we will learn more about what happens. Please, if you can, listen to the video chats that go along with this blog as it definitely has more details on this subject.

One thing for sure is that Jesus is coming again and at moment everything will change!!!! Are you ready for it?

God bless!
