Today, Sunday January 17 – Romans 3:23-25 – We live in a world that is constantly changing! This week major changes will be taking place in our country as a different person becomes our new president. Every day brings change into our lives. And something we don’t like what those changes are. Some of them are very painful, especially if a loved one passes and we are left in a totally different situation without them. It seems that we have little or no control over the changes that we face each day and that sometimes can bring a sense of hopelessness.
So, today I want to remind you of something and Someone who never changes! The Word of God and Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” I love what Oswald Chambers said about prayer: “It’s not so much that prayer changes things, but prayer changes me and then I change things.” Today put your faith and trust in the Word of God and a wonderful Savior who never changes and your heart is encouraged in Who He is and what He has done for you, you will be “changed into His image day by day!” (Read Romans 8:28-39)
The word in Romans 3:25, that we want to focus on today is propitiation. “Whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness…” This word basically means, “instead of”. It is used several times in the New Testament to picture how that the death of Jesus on the Cross and the shedding of His blood was to take the full punishment of God for sin in my place. It pictures how that Jesus became my substitute. He took the wrath of God for the sin of the world as He suffer, bleed and died! 1 John 2:2 “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” 1 John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Despite the circumstances today, you can have great hope because of this great love of God that is found in Jesus Christ! God bless!
