Today, Saturday January 23 – Romans 4 – In this chapter Abraham discovered this righteousness and grace of God when he believed the promise of God. Today we will look at how David described this righteousness. Many would think of Abraham as the greatest of saints in the Old Testament and they would think of David as the greatest of sinners because of his double sins of committing adultery with Bathsheba and then having her husband killed to cover it up.
But the illustration that Paul is giving to us in this chapter is that both of them experienced the forgiveness of their sins by the grace of God. Paul quotes David and what he said about this in Psalm 32. “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to who the LORD does not impute sin.” Here David describes two things: Our sins being forgiven and our sins being covered!
I believe that the greatest expression of love in the world is to forgive someone of their offence that was committed against them. This is what God does for us! To forgive means that He no longer holds that sin against us. It is removed from between us. And He can only do that because Jesus paid the price for that sin! And then God covers our sin! This means that He not only forgives us but that, as only God can, He forgets our sin.
Several expressions are used in the Old Testament for this: “I will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah 7:19) “For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.” (Isaiah 38:17) “…As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12) What a great salvation God provides for us! Are you as thankful as you should be for this forgiveness? Have you ever received this great gift from God? God bless!
