Romans 11 – Our Faithful and Merciful God
Romans 9 through 11 are often called the “parenthesis” chapters. In Romans 1 to 8 Paul has been talking about our great salvation, justification and the righteousness of God that can only be received and found by faith! And then, all of a sudden, the subject seems to change and Paul is discussing his passion and desire for his people, the nation of Israel, to be saved.
My main take from these chapters is: God is Sovereign and He is God and we are not! And we are reminded that God is faithful and merciful to keep His promises to both Israel and His Church!
I love these last verses in Romans 11:28-36 “Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all. Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?" "Or who has first given to Him and it shall be repaid to him?" For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
God used the disobedience of Israel to show mercy on us Gentiles. God also shows mercy upon both Jew and Gentile even though we all have been disobedience. And then it’s like Paul is saying, “Who can ever figure this all out”? God eternal ways are beyond our comprehension but we can still trust Him and give Him the glory that is rightly His!
May the Lord help us to do this today!
God bless!
