A New Song Revelation 5:8-10

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth."

It is no wonder that the theme song in heaven is called a “new song” and it is about redemption! I believe it is called a new song because it is an old song that will never grow old, and every time you sing about God’s redemption it should be like a brand new song in your heart as you worship and praise the Lord Jesus Christ!

As we said yesterday, this praise song that is being sung before the throne of God in heaven is not only a worship hymn, it is also a Gospel song! It is about the blood of Jesus that redeems us from our sins and sets us free from its guilt, its bondage and from its penalty of death! Today in our chat, we talk about how it is also missionary song!

Sinners were redeemed "out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation" (Rev. 5:9). Tribe refers to a common ancestor, and tongue to a common language. People means a common race, and nation a common rule or government. God loves a whole world (John 3:16) and His desire is that the message of redemption be taken to a whole world (Matt. 28:18-20).

Shortly after I met the Lord and my life was totally changed in 1971, one of my favorite hymns quickly became “Redeemed”, written by the famous blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby in 1882.

Redeemed—how I love to proclaim it! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; Redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child, and forever, I am.

Redeemed, redeemed, Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; Redeemed, redeemed, His child, and forever, I am.

Redeemed and so happy in Jesus, No language my rapture can tell; I know that the light of His presence With me doth continually dwell.

I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all the day long; I sing, for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my song.

I know I shall see in His beauty The King in whose way I delight; Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps, And giveth me songs in the night.

The Psalmist said it this way: “He has put a new song in my mouth-- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD” (Psalm 40:3). “Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him” (Psalm 98:1). “Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!” (Psalm 149:1)

Join me today in singing a “new song”, the song of redemption! Let’s start practicing for heaven!

God bless!
