The Great Reward

Psalm 19:7-11

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.”

God not only gives us a revelation as to His power and presence in the world through His creation, He has given us a written revelation of Who He is through the Bible, His Holy Word. And of course, the greatest revelation of God’s love, grace and truth is found in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible is the written Word and Jesus is the Living Word (John 1:1-4). Through creation, the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ, we have no excuse for not finding and knowing God and having a personal relationship with Him!

These five verses (vv. 7-11), give us a wonderful overview of the importance and impact that God’s Word can have in our lives if we would only take the time to expose our hearts and minds to it! People or law enforcement often offer a monetary reward if you can help locate a person who is wanted or one who has disappeared. Remember how millions of dollars were promised as a reward if you could give information as to the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. Most of us would not even begin to have an opportunity to receive that reward.

But my friend, there is a greater reward that is available to every one of us today! It is worth more than the best silver or gold in the world that would be worth millions. And here in America we have the privilege and opportunity to hold it in our hands and open it every day! If only we could really realize the great reward that comes by listening, reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on the Word of God!!!!

Down deep in the heart of every normal person born into the human race there is a three-fold desire: a desire to be happy; a desire to be wise; and a desire to be successful. These verses in Psalm 19 assure us that anyone who will discipline himself to study, meditate and memorize God’s Word will realize this achievement in their life.

We find this promise of success in Psalm 1:2-3: “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Joshua was promised this in Joshua 1:8: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Jeremiah was facing tremendous adversity from everyone around him as he proclaimed God’s message, but he still found great joy in God’s Word. Jeremiah 15:16: “Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.”

Please read these five verses in Psalm 19 over and over again, and by God’s grace decide to seek the great reward that comes from an intimate relationship with the Lord through His Word!

God bless!
