My Pastor's Chat for today is taken from one of Oswald Chambers books on Christian living. This one is very special reminding us not to take ourselves too seriously! Enjoy!

The Son of man is come eating and drinking: and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber. Luke 7 :34

We are all so abominably serious, so interested in our own characters, that we refuse to behave like Christians in the shallow concerns of life. Our safeguard is the God-given shallowness. It is the attitude of a spiritual prig to go about with a countenance that is a rebuke to others because you have the idea that they are shallower than you.

Live the surface common-sense life in a common-sense way, and remember that the shallow concerns of life are as much of God as the profound concerns. It is not our devotion to God or our holiness that makes us refuse to be shallow, but our wish to impress others that we are not shallow, which is a sure sign that we are prigs. We are to be of the stamp of our Lord and Master. and the prigs of His day called Him a glutton and a winebibber. they said He was not dealing with the profound things.

Beware of the production of contempt for others by thinking that they are shallow. To be shallow is not a sign of being wicked: the ocean has a shore. The shallow amenities of life are appointed of God and are the things in which our Lord lived. and He lived in them as the Son of God. It is easier for personal pride not to live in them. Beware of posing as a profound person: God became a Baby.
