Today, Wednesday December 2 – James 4:6 “But he gives more grace. Therefore He says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” I’ve always thought that this verse summarizes what the rest of the Bible says, teaches and illustrates. Pride is the root of all sins! It is the sin with a thousand lives! The very first sin of the universe was pride. Satan, one of God’s leading angels, who probably was the worship leader in heaven leading the rest of the angels in continuous praise to God, let pride come into his heart and thought he was better than God and sought to dethrone God. (Isaiah 14 & Ezekiel 28) The first sin of the human race took place in the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted Adam and Eve with pride, “You will not surely die, if you eat the fruit of this forbidden tree, you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” We are all born with a heart full of pride. James begins this fourth chapter with the question, “What causes wars and fights among you?” Now in verse 6 he gives the answer, Pride. Solomon, in Proverbs 13:10 wrote, “Only by pride comes strife and contention.” Jesus told us to pray that we would not enter into temptation. Everyday my biggest temptation and problem is pride. I wake up with it, wanting me to do what I want to do, rather than what God in His Word wants me to do! Today, let’s confess the sin of pride in our hearts and ask God for His grace to do what we ought to do for His glory! God bless!
