Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Usually the word “no” is used in a negative way. “No! Don’t do that! No! You can’t go there!” But here in Romans 8, it is a very positive and encouraging word! You can divide this chapter into three areas:
“No Condemnation!” (V. 1) We are no longer under the condemnation of sin because we are in Christ Jesus!
“No Obligation!” (v. 12) We are no longer a debtor to live after sin and the flesh!
“No Separation!” (v. 35) There is nothing that has ever been created that can now separate us from the Love of God!
Often one of the great issues in the Christian’s experience is concerning the assurance of our salvation. We thought we got saved, because we did repent and believe and prayed and asked the Lord Jesus to forgive us of our sins and come into our heart and lives! But somewhere along the way, we failed in an area of our walk with God and we began to wonder if we really were ever saved or if we lost our salvation.
This was my experience as a young believer. But one day, and I’ll never forget it, as I was reading this passage, I found the complete assurance of my salvation! The Holy Spirit here promises me that I can be a super conqueror in dealing with any issue or challenge that might come my way. And it’s because, there is nothing can ever separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus!!
How big and wide and deep is the love of God? God loved me so much He did not spare His own Son! Romans 5:8, “God manifested His love to me, in that while I was a sinner, Christ died for me.” God loved me when I was bad, evil and spitting in His face! Please never tell a child that God doesn’t love them when they are bad! It’s simply not true.
And once we receive this great love in Christ Jesus, at the point of our repentance and faith, there is absolutely nothing in heaven, on earth, or even in hell, that can ever separate us from this wonderful, never-ending love!
Wow!!!! What a great finish to this awesome chapter of God’s provision of the Holy Spirit giving us our eternal salvation and the assurance that we can never ever lose it!
God bless!
