“If Then….. Seek”

Colossians 3:1-4

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

In the first two chapters of Colossians, the Apostle Paul makes sure we understand the “preeminence” of Jesus Christ in everything! The false teachers of his day, and even ours today, always do the same thing! They de-throne Christ. They might give Him a place of eminence but do not recognized Him as God in the flesh!

For us to understand and apply the lessons in Colossians 3 and 4, we must first acknowledge and believe the great truths in the first two chapters about Jesus Christ and our risen life in Him.

I’m afraid there are many sincere people that are trying to live out the Christian life as described in the New Testament, but struggle to do so because they have never experienced the “If then”. They might have Jesus in their head but He is not in their heart. They have never truly experience the “new birth” that has made them a brand new creation in Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

In these last two chapters of Colossians, Paul is making it clear that Christ must not only preeminent in the Gospel, in the cross, in creation, and in the church, He must be preeminent in our daily lives! Paul gets very specific about how we should “practice the preeminence of Jesus” in every aspect of our lives on a daily basis!

But we can never live out what is being taught in these last two chapters if the reality of a new life has never happened in our lives personally. It is my prayer today that we will look deep within, and make sure that there is a place and time that we can point to, where by faith we received and believed the Good News of the death of Christ on the Cross and His resurrection, and we asked Jesus to forgive us of our sins and we invited Him into our hearts and lives! If you can’t remember that time, why not do it right now!

“If then…. Seek.” Now we can proceed to seek to live out that life that pleases and glorifies God!

God bless!
