Romans 12:6-8 – Seven Primary Gifts
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Jesus was on earth in His human body for about thirty-three years and only had about three years of public ministry which ended with His crucifixion and His resurrection! Forty days later He ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of His Father where “He ever lives to make intercession for us.”
Jesus had told His disciples in the Gospel of John, that He was going to the Father but He would not leave them as orphans but would send the Promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit who would always be with them. Jesus also told them, that because of this, they would be able to do “greater works” than even He had done.
Amazing! How is this possible? Jesus in His human body could only be in one place at one time. And now, in His body, He is in heaven. But because every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, we are told in Scripture, that Christ is in us. So today, anywhere there is a believer, the presence of Jesus is there, and with the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit, everything that Jesus did in His earthly ministry is available and possible through His followers.
This is because Jesus gave us the church, the local body of believers and has gifted every believer for the work of the ministry. And here in Romans 12, seven of these spiritual gifts are listed, that I believe, are the primary gifts of His church. And every believer has been given at least one of these seven gifts, along with several others, at the moment of their salvation!
The church is the visible manifestation of the person and ministry of Jesus Christ on earth today! We are His hands, His feet, His mouth, His mercy, His love, His compassion, His touch, His grace, His faith, His message, His justice, His teaching, His miracles, His wisdom for the world to see and experience through us!
The greatest privilege and blessing on the earth today is to be a vital part of His Church, exercising our spiritual gifts! Do you know yours?
God bless!
